Stitchcraft memories

When I was a little girl I sometimes dreamt of being a seamstress, probably because my grandmother was one.

I remember watching her sewing on her 'trapmasjien' and then finishing off garments by hand - all by candlelight! She took much pride in her work and always ensured that her creations were beautifully finished off.

As I was raised by her, I was fortunate to get firsthand experience on crafts such as sewing, knitting and crocheting.  In fact, my first 'paid job' was trimming pieces of stray yarn for which I got paid five cents!

One craft I loved and managed very well was knitting. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for my crocheting skills.

This is a problem since I love the cushion with crochet motifs in our July issue so much. So imagine my excitement when our stitchcraft editor Josie, volunteered to lend a helping hand.

I am proud to say that I have since crocheted five motifs - some a bit wobbly, others a little bit 'holier' than planned, but to me it looks just perfect! I am enjoying this so much - I think I'm well on my way to crocheting a bed throw - just like the one my granny made!
