10 Of My Most Favourite Things

The smell of freshly brewed coffee in the morning, the sound of music that reminds me of a magical island holiday, the warmth of a flickering fire...these are only a few of my most favourite things.

1 My Siemens TK54001 Automatic Espresso Machine

I'm a self-confessed coffaholic that believes that the first cup of the day is absolutely essential and every other cup after that is just a bonus. Needless to say, I love my little compact coffee machine that makes anything from espresso and cappuccino to normal filter coffee from raw beans or ground coffee.

2 Chandeliers from Mud Ceramic Studio

Since I first laid eyes upon these masterpieces made from wire and clay, I've fallen in love - big time. While we were working on our July 2009 issue, that was mainly shot in the Free State, I was fortunate enough to meet Werner & Philipha, the artists, and to see the real deal hanging in their home. It was just short of a spiritual experience for me.

3 Mark and Max Vases from Weylandts

I've always loved raw, natural elements like stone and rough textured wood in décor and these vases from Weylandts are simply gorgeous.

 4 Mini Glassfires from Biofires

What is nicer than a cosy fire in winter time? Not much I'd say. That is why I love these glassfires from Biofires. You can use it anywhere as it doesn't give off smoke or fumes and it is great for those of us that want to have a fireplace, but don't have the budget, or patience, to have a proper one installed and it looks great too!

5 The movie & soundtrack of Mamma Mia

I have yet to find another movie that has so many of my favourites all rolled into one. Since I've traveled to Greece a couple of years ago, it's been my all-time favourite. Now put the wonderful sounds of Abba with all those great memories, throw in a couple of my favourite actors and you've got a winner!

6 The Boulders Lodge - Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve

My love for nature and rustic décor combines beautifully in this luxurious haven that is The Boulders Lodge. I can almost see myself on that porch sipping on something cold. Aaaahhh! The good life.

7 The Desert

Although I've never been in a desert, I've always been fascinated by it. The rawness of the landscape is so beautiful and I would love to experience it for myself one day. One of the places I would particularly like to visit is Sossusvlei in Namibia.

8 Philip Briel's paintings

I encountered Philip Briel's mesmerizing paintings for the first time at the Lagoon Beach Hotel in Cape Town a couple of years ago and literally couldn't take my eyes off of it. His use of different mediums is absolutely brilliant and it amazes me that these very abstract works of art all amazingly looks like something in nature. None of his paintings were signed though, so it took quite a search to find out who the artist was. Now that I know, I also know that I will probably never be able to afford one, but I can still admire it from afar.

9 A white plastic chair

There are few things that say 'modern style' to me than a white, plastic chair with clean, contemporary lines. These ones from Chair Crazy are just stunning. It is a stacking chair made from polypropylene and is called the Deluxe Chair CS 213. It is suitable for indoor or outdoor use.

10 A perfect Margarita

At the end of a long day there is nothing as refreshing as a perfectly mixed Margarita. Shake, shake, shake and enjoy!
